History of the Selma Marches 1965
In March 1965, thousands of civil rights activists marched from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, demanding equal voting rights for Black Americans. The marches, met with brutal violence on “Bloody Sunday” at the Edmund Pettus Bridge, galvanized national support and led to the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
